The Primeval has abandoned us, the realms of Man are in ruins and the plague of Beasts ravages through the Beyond, transforming sinners into repulsive Shadows. Fighting back against the Hunger won't bring you neither honor nor glory. Will you be brave or stupid enough to tempt fate against all odds?
Chains of Gaelia is an independent dark fantasy TTRPG, set in a macabre baroque setting inspired by gothic and lovecraftian horror, as well as souls-like videogames. Its mechanics encourage a blend of investigative gameplay and dynamic combat against mind-bending horrors. Your character will slowly lose their Sanity and gain Karma cards, represented by the Major Arcana tarot cards. Keep your Karma in check, and don't lose yourself, lest you turn into a Beast.
The Quickstart Guide includes everything you need to play right now, including:
- Character creation rules, with five fleshed-out and illustrated classes.
- Character growth up to Level 3.
- Sanity loss during investigations.
- A system for gaining white or black Karma, depending on how you interact with the world.
- Rules for transforming into a Beast, or ascending to sainthood.
- A fully illustrated Bestiary.
- A Squeaker Darkly - the introductory campaign set in the small village of Vergessen.

Disclaimer: at Chains of Gaelia we believe in the importance of printed books, and for this reason it's always been in the plans to make the physical book available for purchase. As such, the design process follows a paper first, digital later pipeline. The Quickstart Guide PDF is made to allow for single page scrolling, but it's really meant for a two-up spread view, and the spreads are designed for that. To better enjoy the care and dedication we put into this project, we strongly suggest you to set your PDF reader of choice to a double page view.

The Three Musketeers if it was a dark-fantasy/horror. The world presented here is not just one of "how deep does the rabbit hole go," but instead, "how deep do the players want it to go?"
Completely overflowing with atmosphere that allows you to play anything from a darker, swashbuckling fantasy, to a full on investigative horror where a sword seems but a thin barrier between yourself and the horrors beyond.

The vibes are immaculate, as the kids say these days. I cannot recommend it enough if you are a fan of dark fantasy, gothic, or lovecraftian horror. Grab this book to get ready for the full release, and do your part to fight back against the beasts! Or become one.... You do you, boo!

Genuinely love the art style in this, first up.
I've not gotten to run it yet, but the rules are nice and clean, seems pretty easy to reference, and the setting really does look like a feast that I'm going to really enjoy digging into!
